The Yilan Green Expo was established in 2000, initially focusing on green living, ecological conservation, and sustainable agriculture as its main themes. Through themed conceptual exhibitions, outdoor education, and recreational activities, it conveys the concept of environmental friendliness towards green paddy fields, lush forests, mountains, seas, lakes, and rivers, forming a foundation of harmonious coexistence with nature. Over 20 years of evolution, it has accumulated countless aspirations and practices for green living, integrating cultural and artistic performances, creating horticultural landscapes, rooting environmental and ecological education, supporting the transformation and upgrading of agricultural and fishery industries, and driving tourism, leisure, and local prosperity. The Green Expo stands out among numerous themed festivals nationwide, becoming not only a major spring environmental education flagship initiative in Yilan County but also a nationally renowned event. Due to its commitment to environmental education, the Yilan Green Expo has received the UNEP United Nations Environment Programme's The International Awards for Liveable Communities Gold Award and has been listed as an international-level festival event in the Taiwan Tourism Bureau's biennial calendar.
The 2025 Yilan Green Expo, themed "Sustainable Future Starts from the Heart," integrates stories of conservation of Taiwan's native and endemic species, ecological green networks, net-zero low-carbon energy, forest and marine conservation, resource recycling, local creative revitalization, food and fishery education, food waste reduction, sustainable healthy tourism, cultural heritage of indigenous and Hakka communities, inclusiveness for migrant workers, burn victims, and elderly-friendly initiatives. It aims to build an "INCLUSIVE WORLD" at the Su'ao Wulaokeng Scenic Area, inviting everyone to experience, learn, and achieve harmony with the environment and prosperity with all living beings.
