The beautiful and deep blue sea covers over 70% of the Earth's surface. It is the home to countless species and provides essential resources for human survival such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and medicine. However, our oceans are gradually suffocating. The seabed is filled with human-made plastic and garbage, human-induced greenhouse gases are causing ocean acidification and warming, overfishing is leading to the unsustainable survival of marine life, and fish and shrimp are getting smaller and scarcer.
In the 2024 Green Expo, the Department of Aquaculture brings together a group of ocean lovers and enthusiasts who adopt a sustainable mindset. They treat the ocean as a field, using sustainable aquaculture to alleviate overfishing. They recruit underwater warriors to collect sea waste and create products by re-using recycled materials. They offer educational programs on seafood consumption, promote awareness of sustainable seafood guidelines, provide indicators and reasons for recommended and not recommended consumption, and teach how to identify the origin, production, and distribution records, as well as the CAS certification mark, of aquatic products.
