Paving the Path to a Sustainable Net-Zero Future

Due to the threat posed by global warming, people from all walks of life have put a lot of work in initiatives and actions for sustainable development goals. However, the year 2023 has been confirmed as the warmest on record, denoting that stronger and more urgent efforts made by government units, enterprises and individuals are needed to move toward net-zero emissions. Moreover, curbing humanity's overconsumption of Earth's resources is happening much too slowly. In 2023, Earth Overshoot Day fell on August 2, which means that on that day, humanity's demand for natural resources exceeded what Earth could regenerate in the year 2023. From Earth Overshoot Day until the end of the year, humanity operated on ecological deficit spending. In addition, plastic pollution gets worse and worse. On July 31, 2023, EARTHDAY.ORG announced the global theme for Earth Day 2024, Planet vs. Plastics, that calls for the end of plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040, and an ultimate goal of building a plastic-free future for generations to come.

In 2024, the Yilan Green Expo, together with government policy planning, corporate ESG investment, campus USR initiatives, and national SDGs efforts, constructs an "Earth Academy" in Wulaokeng. The academy gathers initiatives and practices from various fields related to sustainability, allowing visitors to have fun and learn happily. We hope that all visitors can explore together, paving the path to a sustainable net-zero future!
